Innovation
One of the many ways we're advancing health care is by focusing on innovations in our specialty care services, which have rapidly gained a reputation for excellence nationwide.
The 13,000-square-foot Clinical Education and Innovation Center in Windsor brings all of UCHealth’s clinical training resources together in one place to create a larger offering of services to employees and physicians, emergency responders and area nursing schools. The center includes four simulation rooms that mimic real hospital rooms in their appearance as well as the basic equipment that is available. In each room, a realistic computerized manikin patient is used to simulate real-life patient care scenarios. Controlled by clinical educators in an adjoining room, the manikins – also known as high-fidelity simulators – and the scenarios help students improve their assessment skills and help medical teams build critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills in a realistic learning environment. The center also features three classrooms that can open together into one large classroom to accommodate up to 100 people. In addition, there are three breakout rooms, which will be used for low-technology simulations and as debriefing or testing areas.
Memorial Injury Prevention and Research Institute (MIPRI) is improving lives through transparent collaboration, focused research, and meaningful outreach. As a part of UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central, the only Level 1 trauma center in Southern Colorado, we touch the lives of thousands of injured patients. By teaming up with community organizations to share injury trends and “hot spots,” we ensure outreach and resources are provided to the people who need them most. We conduct research on how to prevent the injuries that most affect our community. We utilize our resources as an academic medical center to evaluate and improve injury prevention methods through peer-reviewed research. We strive to ensure that the community has access to well researched, evidence-based outreach methods so every dollar spent on prevention makes a difference.
The American College of Cardiology has recognized UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central for its demonstrated commitment to comprehensive, high-quality culture and cardiovascular care. Hospitals receiving the HeartCARE Center designation from the ACC have demonstrated their commitment to consistent, high-quality cardiovascular care through comprehensive process improvement, disease and procedure-specific accreditation, professional excellence, and community engagement. Memorial Hospital Central is the first hospital in Colorado to earn this designation.
University of Colorado Cancer Center is part of a nationwide research team known as ORIEN – Oncology Research Information Exchange Network – a consortium of leading academic medical centers across the country. These organizations have come together and opened the Total Cancer Care protocol and Coloradans can choose to join and be a part of the team. The person who joins shares their cancer details and tissue and blood samples. Those samples may be analyzed using the latest technology, providing information that will help scientists better understand cancer at the molecular level.
